Learners introduced to journalism

To prove that they were listening attentively to our presentation, we asked questions, and the candidates who gave correct answers were given prizes.

In the next decade or two Caxton Joburg West might be flooded with CVs of newbie journalists who drew their inspiration from Caxton’s own journalists.

Learners of Oakhill Academy in Radiokop were fortunate to be empowered about the journalism industry by the Roodepoort Northsider journalists, Siso Naile and Thabisile Mgwali on Monday, 17 February.

Journalism, a field that keeps reporters on the edge of their seats as they manoeuvre around to get different stories to tell in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment, was meant to be the pitch to the youngsters. However, considering their ages, we didn’t want to scare them and lose potential reporters in future – so we focused on the basics of journalism and different sources of information. We also enlightened the learners about Caxton Local Media and the importance of reading.
