A moment of silence for childhood cancer victims

On Saturday, 15 February, Child Welfare South Africa Roodepoort (CWSAR) celebrated International Childhood Cancer Day by observing a moment of silence to commemorate children who have lost their brave fight against cancer.

International Childhood Cancer Day is a global collaborative campaign that is aimed at raising awareness about childhood cancer.

The day also served as a means to provide and express support for children and adolescents with cancer, the survivors and their families.

CWSAR strives for the day when there will be no more boundaries for children with cancer, regardless of where they live in the world.

Each year, more than 300 000 children aged from birth to 19 years around the world. are diagnosed with cancer

Approximately eight in 10 of these children live in low and middle-income countries where their survival rate is often close to 20 per cent.

“International Childhood Cancer Day is a global collaborative campaign to raise awareness, and promote an increased appreciation and deeper understanding of the challenges faced by children and adolescents with cancer, the survivors and their families,” said director Estelle Odendaal.
