NGO clinic funded to offer immunisations

Immunisation is a simple and effective way of protecting children from serious diseases.

Common diseases among children and adults are expected to be something of the past following the injections of funds at Esizayo Clinic in Cosmo City to offer immunisations. It is a simple and effective way of protecting children against serious diseases.

This private primary healthcare clinic on the corner of Malibongwe Drive and Tennessee Avenue in Cosmo City received a donation of R450 000 from a Randburg-based financial services consulting company, ASI Financial Services to support the cause.

The Esizayo Clinic was established just over a year ago by health NGO Right to Care to drive down the costs of primary healthcare for local residents. For just R350, a patient receives a full consultation with a doctor and/ or a registered nurse, screening, testing, treatment and medication.

Managing director of Right to Care’s Right Clinic division, Wendy Ovens, said, “Due to the high costs of vaccines, the clinic has not been able to offer the community immunisation services. The generous donation by ASI Financial Services has made immunisations possible at our clinic – an intervention that will play an important role in preventing serious diseases in children and adults.”

The acting CEO of ASI Financial Services, Vusi Maswili, who grew up in Cosmo City, said he was bothered by the inadequate health infrastructure when he was a child.

He said his company established the priority needs of the clinic and committed to investing to the cause in September last year.

Since then, over 155 children have been immunised, Maswili confirmed.

The immunisations available at Esizayo Clinic combat the polio virus, the rotavirus, pneumococcal disease, measles, diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis, influenza (Type B) and hepatitis B. Deworming is also part of the new offering.

“We are grateful to ASI Financial Services for helping us to improve our offering to the people of Cosmo City and surrounding communities, and for its role in allowing us to align the Esizayo Clinic with the National Department of Health’s expanded programme on immunisation.

“Our hope is that other corporates will come on board to work with Right to Care in support of this and other programmes aligned to the National Health Insurance (NHI),” Owens explained.
