Club boss takes over as coach

After seeing the poor performance of the club he has built with blood, sweat and tears, Shoko couldn’t sit back and let his ship sink.

Following poor performance by coaches hired to take the Golden Drifters Football Club SAB team forward, the president and founder of the club, Proud Shoko decided to take matters into his own hands.

After seeing the poor performance of the club he has built with blood, sweat and tears, Shoko couldn’t sit back and let his ship sink.

He announced, via a press statement, that he would be taking charge as the senior team’s head coach with immediate effect.

The Northsider followed up on this statement during an interview with Shoko. He said: “The decision came after seeking results from the previous coaches but not getting any,” he said, attributing the poor performances to inexperience and poor management strategies.

Shoko said he sat down with the management team and decided to relieve himself from other commitments for the sole purpose of rescuing the club. This meant focusing more on the players than on office work.

Although the club needs to pull up its socks in order to avoid relegation, Shoko said that firstly, he wanted to fix existing problems at camp which weren’t resolved by the former coaches. That, he believes, created conflict and eventually hampered the morale of the other players.

“Having instilled positivity in the players, it will only be a matter of time before we go back to winning ways,” an optimistic Shoko said.

Shoko won’t be doing this daunting task all himself as he has acquired the assistance of his trusted business partner, Fanie Dlamini to step in as an assistant coach.

He added that some of the day-to-day running of the club have been thrown onto David Mangena’s shoulders, who happens to be the chairperson of the club, and Zandspruit Youth Development Forum founder.
