Commander of Honeydew Detectives bids farewell

More importantly, he said he will miss helping the community and leaving them with a smile.

The Commander of the Honeydew Police Detectives, Colonel Wilson Seshoka has called it time following an enervating 36 years in service.

Seshoka, who recently enjoyed his retirement party alongside his colleagues, served as an inspiration and was a fierce leader in the fraternity.

During his tenure, Seshoka contributed immensely to the Detectives Department and to restoring the stationā€™s reputation.

At a police awards ceremony in 2017, he boasted about how he revived the station while it experienced junk status.

ā€œI came to Honeydew Police Station when things were tough. The performance level was too low. For years we were a ā€˜uselessā€™ police station, but [now] when the Province looks at us, they are impressed,ā€ he was previously quoted.

Seshoka joined Honeydew Police Station in 2012 after being transferred from one station to the next. He said he kick-started his career at Alberton Police Station before going to College. After graduating from College, he served at Moroka Police Station and moved on to Lenasia and the North West. During the peak of his career, he also served at Randburg, Sophiatown, Hillbrow and Bramley Police Stations.

As senior detective at Honeydew, he led by example and gave credit to his staff where it was due. He tackled issues of crime head-on; at one point he issued a stern warning to Cosmo City housebreakers who were terrorising the area.

Also, he was quick to defend his station and rubbish unfounded claims. The Northsider recalled when the residents of Sector 3 accused police of being intimidated by criminals, he responded by telling them that, ā€œThere is no such thing that police officers are scared. People should report cases, which will be dealt with.ā€

Speaking about his new endeavours, Seshoka said he plans to be a livestock farmer. More importantly, he said he will miss helping the community and leaving them with a smile.
