A major health hazard has been identified by Muldersdrift residents next to the sewage-infested stream near Cradlestone Mall.
The sewage spilling into the river has been a cause for concern since the beginning of this month. A suspected burst pipe near Taxi-house informal settlement has been labelled as the cause of this unpleasant situation.
Mogale City Local Municipality Ward 28 councillor, Jean Kotze told the Northsider that the lack of by-law enforcement is the biggest challenge to resolving the problem. “It’s a major problem that I’ve been trying to deal with.

“Mogale City needs to enforce the by-laws, instead of turning a blind eye,” he said. Kotze also alluded that the sewer problem was the tip of the iceberg of issues plaguing the Taxi-house informal settlement.
