Exhibition to showcase top artists

'I've had a brush in my hand since the age of 13 and I am still discovering new techniques at the age of 44.'

Art lovers and collectors will have a field day at Ramkiki Country Estate on 1 March as there will be an art exhibition from 9am to 4pm.

The last exhibition that was hosted at the same venue was a success and featured award-winning artist, Rachel Richter van der Westhuizen who hails from Potchefstroom.

Exhibition organiser, Susan Traut Allin said, “Our next art exhibition will be held in the main dining room at Ramkiki, not in the chapel like last time. It being a bigger venue, we can accommodate more artists.”

The Facebook group behind these exhibitions is South African Art Initiative (SAARTIN), which supports artists by promoting their works.

One of the artists that will exhibiting on the day is Karin Farrell. “Art has always been my solace. Creating my surroundings with bold colours, and the people of our country, inspire me to tell a story on canvas.

“I’ve had a brush in my hand since the age of 13 and I am still discovering new techniques at the age of 44.

‘Art is my passion and it should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable,” Karin explained.

Moses Jimere will also be showcasing his artistic master pieces on the day. He was part of a group of artists who did mosaics around Johannesburg CBD.

“Growing up, I loved art but my family discouraged me, so I let it go till in 2003 on my birthday when I started having visions of beautiful pictures.

“I started drawing pictures of the visions I had and painted them. I did about 20 paintings and took them to a gallery in Parkhurst, left them on consignment and a week later I had sold 11 paintings,” concluded Moses.
