AfriForum neighbourhood watch on patrol

A large group from across the community security spectrum participated.

Community safety was in the spotlight when neighbourhood security forces gathered for a patrol on Friday, 17 January.

Keeping the public aware of the continued fight against crime, AfriForum Neighbourhood Watch held their first monthly crime prevention and mass patrol for 2020. Aided by the resources of police and other security personnel, the gathering sent a strong message that criminality will not be tolerated. Four police vehicles, four search-and-rescue teams, three medical call-out units and roughly 20 security companies made up the 86 member strong company.

“It is really encouraging to me that we succeeded in attracting so much cooperation and support from organisations other than AfriForum to patrol with us. The cooperation between the police and other security companies reached unprecedented highs,” said Fanie Naudé, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Roodepoort branch.

The greater Fairland area was patrolled and no serious incidents were reported. Active citizenry is key to fighting criminal elements and an increase in manpower is always welcome. The AfriForum Neighbourhood Watch is open to new members and one can join by sending an SMS costing R1 to 45341 with the word ‘Roodepoort’.
