Multiple vehicle accident forces temporary road closure

No fatalities but several patients taken to hospital The section of Christiaan De Wet Road that winds through the cliffs between Clearwater Mall and Constantia Kloof added to its long list of victims late on Friday afternoon, 17 January. 

This week saw the true force of the traffic flood the roads and many an impatient driver shaking off the holiday rust. Friday evening commuters endured a delay in their first serious week ending slog between work and home.

An accident involving three vehicles blocked much of the main arterial used by the bulk of Roodepoort residents. A partial head on collision saw three vehicles damaged with one hatchback being lodged under small delivery truck.

There were no immediate casualties but Alett Reed of Emer-G-Med confirmed, “Multiple patients, including children, were transported to hospital by Emer-G-Med and other services, with injuries ranging from minor to serious”.

The temptation to end the work week as quickly as possible exists in all commuters but common sense must prevail when taking on a road as notorious as Christiaan De Wet Road.

The road networks are shared spaces and any reckless choice will always more than one driver and their precious cargo.
