Murder suspect accepts lift – to jail!

The suspect was wanted for murder after he had stabbed a 21-year-old at Joe Slovo informal settlement in Muldersdrift on Saturday, 11 January.

A 22-year-old murder suspect’s plan of escape went completely wrong after he received a lift from an informed Muldersdrift police officer who drove him straight to prison.

This suspect has been wanted for murder after he stabbed a 21-year-old victim at Joe Slovo informal settlement in Muldersdrift on Saturday, 11 January.

According to Muldersdrift police spokesperson, Constable Slindile Ntuli, the deceased victim returned from work and engaged in an argument with the suspect who both resides in the same premises as him.

“During the argument, the 22-year-old suspect stabbed the victim on his upper body and fled the scene. The victim was declared dead on the scene by paramedics,” she stated.

Ntuli said the investigator, Captain Phiri, interviewed people who were at the scene and gave a friend of both the victim and suspect his numbers in case the suspect returns for his belongings.

The suspect’s escape was short lived as he was caught the next day. “On Sunday 12 January at approximately 5pm Captain Phiri received a phone call from a friend of both victim and suspect informing him that the suspect has contacted him requesting assistance to relocate the area.”

“Phiri and a friend of both victim and suspect proceeded where the suspect was. A friend told the suspect he had requested a lift for him therefore he should hurry; suddenly the suspect emerged from the bushes and jumped inside the police car unaware it was driven by Captain Phiri. The suspect was immediately arrested and brought to the station,” she explained.

The Muldersdrift police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Mankontsho Setlhare applauded Captain Phiri for his hard work and also thanked the member of the community for assisting the police on the matter.

He further encouraged the community members to work closely with the police in order to ensure safety within our society.
