Ways to ensure leftover food does not go to waste

Here are some creative tips for you:

Now that Christmas is done and dusted and your family and friends have started to leave your house, ever wondered what you can do with all your leftovers?

Instead of letting the delicious treats go to waste, the Record has compiled a number of ideas that you can use to make sure that the food does not end up in a trash can.

Store the leftovers for dinner

Depending on the quantity of food that you’ve prepared, having it again in a different set up, would be ideal, especially for dinner or supper, either less or more of what you’ve had already.

Give some to your visitors to take away

Always have foil or lunch tins at your house in case your visitors really enjoyed what was served them. If there’s still plenty in your pots, pack them some dinner so that they don’t have to cook when they get to their homes.

Give to charity

There are many charity organisations in your community, and it would be a blessing to them if you packed some food for them or even gave it to homeless people.

Feed your pets

Once you’ve fed all the people, appropriate food that can eaten by dogs and cats, such as meat, can be given to your animals. Dogs love meat, especially with bones – it wouldn’t hurt to throw a few pieces of meat in their bowls, just to see your furry friends wag their tails as they tuck in.
