Christmas brings early and unexpected gifts

No presents more appreciated than a happy and successful birth

The Christmas feasts shared by families nationwide would have left many a belly on the verge of popping.  Two young women who did pop on Christmas Day, although for different reasons, were Yolandi van den Berg and Boudine den Heyer.

Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital welcomed the two new souls into the world on Christmas afternoon in unexpected circumstances as both Yolandi and Boudine’s bundles of joy arrived ahead of schedule.  Registered Nurse-Midwife(RN-M) Natalie Craig was enjoying a quiet day before the excitement was amplified several notches.

Vaughn and Boudine den Heyer. Their daughter, Hazel-Grace, was born six weeks early, and is in the NICU.

Boudine was the first into the Maternity ward, giving birth via emergency caesarean section to Hazel-Grace den Heyer.  Hazel-Grace was so eager to join the world that she arrived six weeks early. Arriving at 2.28pm, she weighed in at 1.88kg’s at a length of 42cm. Being so early, Hazel-Grace was moved to ICU but proud father Vaughn, can look forward to holding his baby girl in due time.

Luan van den Berg was the next newborn in Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital’s maternity ward. Born to Yolandi and her beaming husband Marnus,  he weighed in at 3.29kg’s at a length of 48cm’s. His 4.22pm arrival was by natural birth and was Yolandi’s second child. RN-M Craig commented that Yolandi breezed effortlessly through the procedure, which she was not expecting for another 15 days at least.
