West Rand offenders shown the law

A West Rand Okae Molao safer festive season operation yielded marvellous results as 131 suspects were arrested.

Led by the West Rand District Police Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District members from 13 police stations, community patrollers, Mogale City and Gauteng Traffic Departments, Vehicle Crime Investigation Units (VCIU), Flying Squad, Crime Intelligence and Customs, were on parade at approximately 4.45am on Thursday, 21 November to take charge of the streets and ensure that those who belong behind bars were brought to book.

“Successes totalled 131 suspects arrested for crimes ranging from possession of dagga; possession of stolen property; selling liquor without a licence; possession of counterfeit goods; cultivation of dagga; common assault; assault GHB; undocumented persons; attempted murder; murder; dealing in drugs; drunken driving; pointing of firearm; malicious damage to property; possession of drugs; possession of unlicensed firearm; theft in general; use of motor vehicle without owner’s consent; housebreaking and theft; rape; sexual assault; common robbery and assault common/ domestic violence,” she explained.

She added that at the roadblocks, a total of 64 road traffic fines to the value of R50 200 were issued, a total of 1 227 persons were searched, and 576 vehicles were stopped and searched to check for stolen goods and dangerous weapons.

Liquor outlets, second-hand goods dealers and tuck shops were raided for non-compliance, and expired goods were confiscated.

Ntuli said Kekana applauded the members for their hard work and emphasised the importance of working together as a team to ensure positive results.
