Drug lab bust in Wilro Park

Suspect/ s had already fled the residence when police and the Hawks arrived

On the morning of 24 November, members of Roodepoort Police Station and the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Unit received information regarding a drug laboratory on Venus Avenue in Wilro Park.

When police and Hawks members arrived at the scene they discovered that the suspect/ s had already left the residence. According to a resident who will not be named for safety reasons, the pungent odour of chemicals filled the air for a while during the day.

A search of the house revealed chemicals, including pool acid, zinc chloride, propionic acid and formaldehyde, and several kilograms of crystal methcathinone. “The estimated street value of both the finished product and the chemicals is estimated at R300 000,” Hawks spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale stated in the press release.

“Investigations are continuing to locate the suspect/ s,” Mogale said.
