UPDATE: Baboon still out-and-about

Durban Deep Roodepoort-based CLAW had been tracking the animal and finally had the opportunity to pounce when he entered The Capital On The Park Hotel on Katherine Street, Sandton. Cora Bailey from CLAW noted, ”The baboon was terrified. He had climbed up the side of the building. We managed to track him to the only empty room in the hotel and there we were able to capture him.”

General Manager of hotel, Adrian Wilmers, commented on the incident. ”We saw him climb up the side of the building and we were quite scared he would fall and hurt himself. Luckily he was caught and taken to a good rehab facility. The guys from CLAW were great.”

Becoming increasingly popular, the baboon had first been reported wandering the streets, and various residents had spotted him at several locations. ”He could have been forced from a troupe or simply have left his last troupe. Baboons can change troupes several times in their lives, so it is not an unnatural occurrence,” explained Cora, incredibly proud of her organisation’s work.
