Honeydew Police are on a serious lookout for about 10 gun-wielding suspects who robbed Ackermans in Zandspruit of cellphones worth over R160 000 on Saturday, 2 November.

According to Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, there were seven employees and customers in the shop when the Zulu-speaking male suspects entered the shop and accosted everyone.

“They started pushing the staff and customers around and demanded cash and cellphones, especially the Samsung brand,” he described the incident.

“They then forced one of the staff members to open the cellphone safe. They then took cellphones worth over R160 000,” he explained, adding that two additional cellphones were also taken from the employees. “In the midst of the incident, one female employee was assaulted with a firearm and sustained injuries,” he added.

Muthan said an ambulance was called in for the injured employee after the suspects had left the scene on foot, running in different directions. “They used their own sport bags to carry the cellphones and no cash was stolen. This matter is under investigation,” he concluded.
