Mashoa was thus sentenced to life imprisonment. Senior State Advocate Deon van Wyk explained, saying, ”The court agreed with the State that there are no compelling and substantial circumstances to allow for a lesser sentence prescribed by section 51(1) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 105 of 1997 and imposed life imprisonment on each count. Therefore the accused was sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment”.
