Two unlicensed firearms recovered

One vehicle found with fraudulent plates

Florida Police have recovered two unlicensed firearms in two separate incidents in the past week. The discoveries were made while conducting routine operations in conjunction with various security companies and Community Policing Forums.

The first firearm was recovered on 18 October at roughly 10pm at a drunken driving operation on the corner of Albertina Sisulu Road and Natalie Street, Fleurhof. Five males were travelling in a white and blue Toyota Quantum when they were stopped and searched. Police recovered the unlicensed firearm as well as live ammunition.

The second incident occurred at a roadblock on Acacia Avenue, Fleurhof. A white Toyota Camry with four male occupants approached the roadblock but made a U-turn and sped away from the scene. The police gave chase and cornered the vehicle on Main Reef Road. They not only recovered the unlicensed firearm and live ammunition – the vehicle was also found to have fraudulent licence plates.

The Florida Police station commander, Colonel Mulligan, applauded the members for a job well done. She added that she will not rest until the streets of Florida are clean and will never allow anyone to terrorise the community.

All the suspects were arrested and will appear at the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court in due time.
