Louise (Lulu) Latsky was born on 22 October 1901 in Carnarvon, in the Karoo region of South Africa, she is the favourite author of Afrikaans books, mostly for children.

She acted as the children’s science editor for the Nasionale Pers From 1943 until 1950 or 1951.

In the same year she collaborated in the publication of the Kennis vir Almal series, to which she contributed nine titles.

Latsky was the first woman to be awarded a Doctorate at the University of Stellenbosch and the first woman in South Africa to receive a Doctorate in Science.
