The word of the day for 21 October is: Perfection.

‘Perfection’ is defined as the state or quality of being faultless.

Many of us have convinced ourselves that we can only be happy once we have achieved perfection, but that is an impossible task. Nothing in the world is faultless so convincing ourselves that we can be is ridiculous.

Winston Churchill described perfection as the enemy of progress. Trying to do every daily activity perfectly stops us from moving forward. We give up, or stop, or slow down on what we are doing because we want it to be perfect and it isn’t. The reality is that nothing will ever be perfect.

Salvador Dali simply said that we shouldn’t be scared of perfection because we will never reach it.

He was not saying that we can’t achieve our goals, but he was saying that perfectionism will just hold us back. So we shouldn’t be scared that something will not be perfect, we should just do it to the best of our abilities.

Angelique Arnauld said, “Perfection consists not of doing extraordinary things, but of doing ordinary things extraordinarily well.”
