Discovery pensioners spoiled at high tea event

Pensioners enjoyed a stress-free day filled with delicious treats and some tea.

The Discovery Community Forum (DCF) hosted a Pensioner’s high tea for all the elderly in the community on 12 October at St Laurence’s Church.

At no cost to the pensioners, the DCF gave back to the elderly by inviting them to enjoy the day with delicious complimentary food and desserts prepared specially for them. The elderly also enjoyed the medical informational discussion by paramedic Ryan McMurray, from Emer-G-Med, in association with Apcan Security. He discussed everything you need to know about choking, drowning, dehydration, burn treatment and prevention and much more.

Multi-charity representatives, Averille Botha and Denise Antunes, discussed the importance of recycling, and that one should try to get involved with outreaches and charitable causes in your community.

The DCF chairperson, Justin Bezuidenhout, elaborated on all medical topics and explained how important it is for elderly people to keep all their relevant documentation close at hand and visible in case of any emergency.

The elderly also had a chance to get to know one another, and make new friends, as one of the topics of discussion was that a lot of the elderly are alone.

After a lot of giggles and with full tummies, the day ended on a good note.
