Charter College lends out venue for market day

Despite a relatively low turnout due to many parents having prior commitments, vendors bearing all kinds of goods still took advantage of the day to sell and promote their businesses.

In a bid to raise much-needed funds for the running costs of the Roodepoort Child Welfare, Charter College International High School hosted the NGO’s market day which consisted of numerous stalls and splendid entertainment on Saturday, 5 October.

Despite a relatively low turnout due to many parents having prior commitments, vendors bearing all kinds of goods still took advantage of the day to sell and promote their businesses.

Kirsty Ledsham, the assistant organiser from the school, discussed how they got to sponsor the venue without charging them a fee. “Debbie Louw (the fundraiser and board member) at the Roodepoort Child Welfare approached us and asked if they could host their market day at the school and we agreed because we want to support them as much as we can. We gave the venue to them free of charge and also collected tinned foods for them instead of charging an entrance fee. The learners at the school also created Christmas decoration stars to sell in order to support them,” she explained.

The school also brought out its famous band, which kept the scores of attendees entertained.

A thankful Debbie cited the importance of the fundraiser. “The event was meant to collect the funds we are in desperate need of, because we do not get adequate support,” she explained.

She concluded by thanking the school for hosting them and the stall-holders who came out to vend for the day.
