Rogier van Bever Donker, president of the SASP extended his congratulations to the school and said, “The Brain Break competition was well received by schools around the country and it is encouraging to see how enthusiastic educators are to include ‘fitness and not sitness’ in the classroom environment”.

Schools and classes right across the country entered and stood a chance of winning R5 000 worth of exercise equipment for their school.

The learners had to submit a 30-seconds video of their fun, physical Brain Break to the SASP to stand a chance of winning.

For the 2019 National Physiotherapy Back Week from 1 till 8 September, SASP challenged schools to schedule brief ‘brain breaks’ to boost brainpower as children need to run and play often to develop and use their brains.

Van Bever Donker said, “Parents and teachers should work together to ensure that physical activity happens at the same time as learning.

“Physiotherapists can offer excellent advice on what sorts of activities to incorporate – intense bursts of activity which will grab the children’s attention and boost their brainpower.”
