The word of the day for 9 October is: Metamorphosis.

Metamorphosis is defined as a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one.

While in biology, metamorphosis refers to the physical changes in insects or amphibians, the word can be used to describe changes in humans and our emotional growth.

People always say that change is as good as a holiday and while that is true, people rarely take into account the steps to achieve change. A new beginning can be a good thing, but it can be painful as it often means an end to something else. Letting go of our comfort is difficult.

This being said, difficult and painful experiences help us grow. We learn from them and apply the lessons we have learned on our daily lives to make us better and more successful people. And while the painful aspects of life can be difficult to deal with now and make you feel hopeless, we only understand the good changes once the pain has passed. It may be hard now, but one day you will see how the difficulties you are facing now are necessary for your growth.

Change is a part of life, and yes it can be painful, but it is always good in the end.

Maya Angelou said, “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty”.

We can see how beautiful a butterfly is, but the metamorphic process it goes through is painful. A caterpillar cannot reach the beauty of a butterfly without the pain that comes with the transformation. It is the same with us; change may be hard, but it’s necessary to evolve.
