WATCH: Cancer awareness loudly raised

The organisation also offered breast cancer screening for the ladies and PSA blood testing for the gents among the hive of activities at the venue.

The thundering roar of hordes of Harley-Davidson motorcycles owned by the H.O.G. Clearwater Chapter embarked on a 100km charity ride to raise awareness about and funds for PinkDrive, an NGO that promotes awareness and early detection of, and screening for gender-related cancers in the general population

The Pink Noise Motorcycle Charity Ride started at the Harley-Davidson Clearwater dealership where about 100 bikes were marshaled around a truck branded with pink ribbons, which was used to draw crowds of motorists and pedestrians along the route to create awareness.

Nelius du Preez, the PinkDrive events manager, who made sure the dealership was painted pink for the day with inflatables and gazebos, explained what they do.

“PinkDrive has a mobile mammography screening facility that focuses its services on rural areas and communities where people do not have medical insurance. We provide them with education and awareness about, and screening for both breast and cervical cancer,” he said.

The organisation also offered breast cancer screening for the ladies and PSA blood testing for the gents among the hive of activities at the venue.

The dealership, which has shown to be no stranger to supporting charitable causes, ran a number of specials on motorcycles and merchandise for its customers on the day.

Jono Steyn, the general manager of the dealership, explained why they chose to be part of this event. “Cancer has affected many people and it’s a good cause to support. We urge other organisations to get behind such causes,” he encouraged.
