Courier hijackings probed by special unit

Last month, two courier vehicles were found abandoned in the Honeydew policing precinct in two separate incidents.

 

A special task team has been launched by the Honeydew Police Station to look into the hijacking of courier vehicles in the area.

Last month, two courier vehicles were found abandoned in the Honeydew policing precinct in two separate incidents.

The first incident happened on 18 September in Wilgeheuwel, when BCI Security discovered an abandoned DHL vehicle with its rear window kicked out from the inside. The driver was found to be unharmed; however, valuables that sparked controversy were stolen.

About seven days later, on 25 September, a second courier vehicle was also discovered in Poortview by DMS Security. The RAM vehicle was recovered with the driver locked up in the back. The company could not establish what was stolen from the van.

According to the Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, the incidents were not linked.

“A special task team is busy investigating these incidents,” he confirmed.
