Word of the day

Start off your day with a new word, a new quote, and a new mindset.

The word of the day for 4 October is: Defeat.

Depending on the context, one definition of defeat can be entirely different from the other. As a verb, ‘defeat’ means to win against something or someone, but as a noun, ‘defeat’ is failing to win or be successful.

Maya Angelou said, “You will face many defeats in life, but never let yourself be defeated.”

The road of life is never straight; there are twists and turns, speed bumps and mountains to conquer – but we can never let them defeat us. When our failures seem to outweigh our successes, we often accept defeat, but Henry Ford said, “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.”

We cannot let our troubles win; we must use them as experiences and lessons and triumph over our shortcomings. We cannot be defeated by what tries to defeat us.
