Ruimsig parkrun celebrates 1st birthday

85 participants on the day were first timers, 91 recorded new personal bests, and representatives of 20 different clubs took part in the parkrun.

 

The Ruimsig parkrun celebrated its first birthday on Saturday 28 September and had 624 people who ran, jogged and walked the course.

Eighty-five of the participants on the day were first timers, 91 recorded new personal bests, and representatives of 20 different clubs took part in the parkrun.

The event was made possible by 22 volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure that the parkrun is always a success.

The female record is held by Carina Swiegers, who recorded a time of 19:19 on 5 January 2019 at event number 19.

The male record is held by Juandre de Bruin, who recorded a time of 16:19 on 13 July 2019 at event number 44.

Volunteer Adele Enslin said, “Thank you so much to everyone who supported us on our first birthday run. It was a great day and we all had loads of fun.”

Ruimsig parkrun started on 15th September 2018, since then 8 981 participants have completed 34 521 parkruns, covering a total distance of 172 605km. During this time, 8 136 new Personal Bests have been achieved and a total of 462 individuals have volunteered 1 156 times.
