AfriForum’s Roodepoort neighbourhood watch apprehends three suspects

Dewet Ungerer says that AfriForum has a winning recipe for protecting their community.

During patrols on 2 September, AfriForum’s Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch successfully apprehended three suspects. The first of the three men was apprehended during a patrol in the early hours of that morning. A patrol member apprehended the suspect, who allegedly already has an armed robbery case against him, after he was caught breaking into a house.

Later that day, the Neighbourhood Watch received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area, and upon investigation, the other two suspects were apprehended and handed over to the police for further questioning. Drugs (tik (crystal methamphetamine) and CAT (methcathinone)) were also found in the suspects’ possession, and one of them was allegedly wanted for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.

“These successes don’t happen overnight – many hours are required to implement and execute patrols effectively. When AfriForum’s Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch reaps the benefits, as it did in this case, it confirms that they have a winning recipe for protecting their community,” said Dewet Ungerer, AfriForum’s assistant coordinator for the West Rand.
