Struggling student appeals for study funding

He said the unfortunate part about the bursary is that it only covered his tuition fees, and he had to fend for himself for pocket money, study materials and other necessities.

Twenty-six-year-old Vincent Mabule from Zandspruit informal settlement is appealing to local businesses, organisations and individuals to help him complete his tertiary studies.

This needy Bcom in Accounting student has been stuck between a rock and a hard place, trying to settle his study debt which has consequently thrown him out of school.

Mabule, on his backabuddy report, said he received a bursary to study at Monash South Africa in 2012, after completing his matric with excellent results in 2011.

He said the unfortunate part about the bursary is that it only covered his tuition fee only, and had to fend for pocket money, study material and other necessities.

“I was compelled to stay in Zandspruit as a university student which presented me with umpteen challenges. I studied in an environment which was not conducive for me to unleash my full academic potential and progress with my studies. I was compelled to study in a tiny shack, using a candle, and in the midst endured disturbance from noises emanating from local shebeens,” he lamented.

This unfortunate factor resulted in this youngster to fail some of his major modules which eventually cost him his sponsorship.

The youngster, who said is suppose to be completing his third year, lamented that he was forced to drop out due to financial difficulties.

He now appeals to the public to invest in his dream of completing his studies and becoming a qualified accountant.
