Honeydew police probe mysterious weekend murders

An investigation into the murders is ongoing, but at this stage the motives are unknown.

 

Honeydew Police are investigating a case of murder after a 22-year-old man was fatally wounded during the weekend.

On the morning of Sunday, 25 August, the community of Zandspruit woke up to news of the shocking death of the man who, according to an ER24 report, was shot in the head and back.

“Shortly after 7am, paramedics from ER24 and members of the police arrived on the scene where they found the young man lying near Marina Road, outside theZandspruit informal settlement. They found that he had sustained gunshot wounds to his head and back. There was nothing that could be done for him and he was declared dead on the scene,” Werner Vermaak, ER24’s spokesperson, explained.

The spokesperson for the station, Captain Balan Muthan, said the motive for the murder is unknown at this stage. “An investigation into the murder is ongoing,” he said.

Vermaak said that the paramedics were called back to Zandspruit about an hour later. “At approximately 8am, paramedics were called back to the area for another patient. A man, believed to be 44 years old, was found on Beyers Naudé Road, outside the informal settlement. He had sustained severe burn wounds as well as other injuries in an assault. He was treated and rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment,” Vermaak explained.

The two incidents have not been linked by the police at this stage.
