Councillor aims to keep the area green

She also went on to warn residents about the illegal cutting down of trees belonging to the City.

As the month of September is the beginning of Spring, and coincides with Arbour Month, Ward 89 councillor, Amelia Bester, has asked residents to notify her of areas in need of trees.

“Please notify me of areas where we need trees for Arbour Month. City Parks and Zoo have a few to donate. Keep climate change in mind,” she said.

She also went on to warn residents about the illegal felling of trees belonging to the City.

“The value of mature trees could be as much as R50 000 per tree,” she said. “If and when a City-owned tree is removed privately, the [perpetrator] could be fined the value attributed to that tree,” she warned.

“The City battles to collect branches dumped along the road reserves. Residents are urged to make use of the Garden Sites,” she appealed, directing residents to utilise the Panorama Garden Site which falls into her ward.
