Former bullied learner now lives his best life

When reflecting on what she and her son went through at the previous school, Lerato said she's treating the incidents as a blessing in disguise.

A nine-year-old child who was a victim of bullying at his former school in Roodekrans is now doing better than ever before after moving to another school.

The mother of the boy, Lerato Thobejane, who doesn’t have to worry about issues of bullying at the new school, updated the Record on the improvement in her son’s academic and social life after leaving the school which caused so much trauma in his life.

Mother of bullied learner cries out for help

“Kuhlekwethu Mohale (my son) is doing very well at the new school. There is no bullying at the new school. Either that, or how it’s handled is totally different from his previous school. He has not experienced any form of bullying since joining the school,” she explained.

Kuhlekwethu left the school early this year after his mother felt the management of the school was not doing enough to protect her son, who would return home with scars across his face. The bullying had been taking place throughout 2018 and early 2019.

Previously we had to protect the identity of the boy and the mother due to the stipulations of the Press Code, but now that he is no longer a victim of bullying, the mother was more than happy for us to reveal their identities.

When reflecting on what she and her son went through at the previous school, Lerato said she treated those incidents as a blessing in disguise.

“I feel sometimes it was a blessing in disguise for Kuhlekwethu to be bullied at that school, because it ended in another opportunity for him. My boy has gained weight and he receives academic certificates for performing well in school which I, as his mother, am very proud of,” a happy Lerato shared.
