West Rand Toastmasters holds meeting number 467
The meeting was concluded and it was agreed that the next one will be held on Thursday, 1 August, at 6.30pm, at the Discovery Bowling Club.
One new member and five new guests were welcomed at meeting number 467 of the West Rand Toastmasters, which was held on Thursday, 18 July.
The meeting was called to order by Jeffrey Nkhwazi, who is the Sergeant-At-Arms and also took on the role of Joke Master.
The acting President, Malcolm Harris, welcomed all the guests and presented apologies. The role of the Toastmaster of the evening was given to Thato Majela, who was commended for his performance as this was his first attempt in this role.
The theme for the night was Mandela Day, which was celebrated internationally on the same day the meeting was held.
Alwyn van Wyngaarden was chosen as the Grammarian and the word for the day was ‘acceptance’.
A toast to Toastmasters was proposed by Malcolm. The role of Table Topics Master was taken on by André Diedericks, who had everyone thinking on their feet.
Rixon De Vos, who is the new member, spoke very well during the Table Topics/ Impromptu Speech session and they wished him well in his new experience as a Toastmaster.
Lynette Harris, Glen Campbell and Jacqui Motaung presented their prepared speeches. Lynette’s speech was an educational one regarding the structure of the club, while Glen’s was entitled A Secret Garden. Jacqui’s speech focused on addressing the different roles she plays in her life and it was entitled Manager Mentor Mom.
The role of the Evaluation Chairman was performed by Michael Glencross, and Bonny Matlala, who is the new Area S2 Director, gave the general evaluation of the meeting.
During the meeting, awards were presented to the following people:
*Best Speech – Jacqui Motaung
*Best Contributor – Thato Majela
*Best Table Topic/ Impromptu Speech – Max Kaan.
