The person who dumped the infant that was found dead in a dustbin outside a complex in Harveston AH on Tuesday, 9 July has not been traced to date.

The newborn was found by recyclers who were digging through the bins outside the complex.

The security company’s operations manager, Rudi Holtzhausen, who suspected that the baby might be linked to someone in the complex, said the complex was gathering footage.

“We have tried all avenues, but no one knows who the baby belongs to. It’s probably from the complex where the dustbin was located,” he said, “but it could have been dumped by a passerby, as the bins were standing outside the property for a while.”

“At the moment, complex management is checking its video footage to see if they can pick up anything,” he said.

The Northsider is also awaiting further comment from the Honeydew Police.

The initial report garnered a number of comments on social media. One of these, from Giselle Harmsen, suggested a lead for authorities. “Bins are numbered and allocated to a complex, this way you can find the culprits and charge them with murder,” she posted. “This is disgusting. I cannot believe humans behave like this, you cannot call yourself a human – animal is more accurate. It’s shocking,” Giselle added.
