Praise for single parent Makatsa

The BEPR Facebook page has been bustling with positive comments from its followers and lovers of the Black Eagles.

It is very sad to come into terms with the fact that the male Black Eagle (Thulane) has still not returned to the natal area, and according to the Black Eagle Project Roodekrans (BEPR), it is highly unlikely that he will return.

The BEPR Facebook page has been bustling with positive comments from its followers and lovers of the Black Eagles.

When photographer Chris Jones sent photos to the BEPR of the busy Makatsa, showing clearly that she is still managing to feed herself and the chick, numerous comments from the eagle followers supporting and encouraging the now single parent followed.

Here are some of the comments from the BEPR Facebook page:

Carole Mullings: “Thanks for the update. Hope Makatsa and her chick will keep warm during this cold spell, and the next one on the way. Her dedication is to be admired.”

Christa van Rooyen: “Thank you very much for keeping us updated. I am so upset for her sake.”

Linda Grilo: “Amazing news that Makatsa is keeping both her and the chick alive and going. It’s so heart-breaking that Thulane is missing.”

Annatjie van Biljon: “What a wonderful mother. ‘Stand by me’. Thanks for the update. It is so special.”

Nardus Tredoux: “On Saturday morning she was hunting next to Ruimsig Country Club, majestic bird!”

Terry Balvers: “So amazing!! They definitely have determination and perseverance, thank goodness she is young!!”

Lori Friedman: “I am still hoping Thulane is well. Good luck to this chick. Very bad timing for his disappearance.”

Sil Wdlck: “One chick and Makatasa at the helm. May she be the one who teaches us what tenacity really looks like.”

Rosie Shields: “Thinking of you, Makatsa and the chick in the UK and hoping things go well for this family. What are the chances of her finding a new male for next year?”

Peter Olusegun Ajibike: “Hope Thulane is not trying to cheat on Makatsa because I suspect infidelity game being played by Thulane. I can’t imagine how Thulane could run away from his responsibility and leave the new-born baby chick under the care of Makatsa alone. IT’S UNFAIR!!!”

The BEPR will continue to monitor the situation and communicate as soon as new developments on Makatsa and her chick unfold.
