A plea for old and unwanted glasses

Recycling unwanted glasses to give the gift of sight.

The Lions’ Club is appealing to the community to donate their old spectacles.

Members of various Lions Clubs volunteer their time to assist those in need of spectacles who have no medical aid or the finances to cover the cost of obtaining them through an optician.

“Used specs in good condition can be dropped off at the Lions’ Roodepoort Eye Clinic on a Saturday morning between 9am and 11am,” said Rob McClarty, who is one of the Lions.

The Lions’ Roodepoort Eye Clinic is situated on 8th Avenue, Roodepoort North and is open every Saturday morning.

“Our motto is simply ‘We Serve’ and there is no better reward than to look into the eyes of a person you have helped in a meaningful way,” said Rob.

Helen Keller challenged the Lions to be knights of the blind and said “Alone we can do so little, TOGETHER we can do so much!”.
