15-year-old boy dies on top of train
“He was declared dead and later removed from the top of the train.”
Investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death of a boy near Maraisburg train station in Roodepoort.
The boy, who is believed to be 15 years old, died while he was standing on top of a train on Friday, 31 May.

“Shortly before 2pm, paramedics from ER24 as well as the Police Dog Unit attended the scene. Bystanders took rescuers to the train near the station where the boy was found on top of one of the carriages. Local train services were suspended to allow rescuers to gain access to the top of the train,” said ER24 spokesperson, Werner Vermaak.
Vermaak said upon assessment, they found that there was nothing they could do for the boy.
“He was declared dead and later removed from the top of the train,” he added.
