The MMC for Economic Development and Ward 97 councillor, Leah Knott, has provided the anti-fraud hotline numbers to report residents who bypass the City’s systems.

Leah provided the tip-off contact details for the electricity and billing departments – entities that are seemingly plagued by fraudsters.

With regard to billing, Leah said, “Persons deliberately providing the City with false contact and personal information; failure to create a new account for a new tenant or homeowner, and paying or attempting to pay a City employee for personal gain can be reported on 0800 002 587”.

With regard to electricity, she said residents can report the following incidents to City Power: “A meter that has been removed and connected to an illegal power supply; two or more houses connected to one power supply; stealing of cables and pipes; illegally reconnecting an electricity supply; tampering with meters and reversing the readings, or slowing them down; illegally connecting a cable that has been disconnected because of non-payment, and paying or attempting to pay a City employee for personal gain, can all be reported on the tip-off line for City Power, which is 0800 00 32 51,” she explained.
