Various roles of the West Rand Toastmasters explained

Nominations for the new Executive Committee were received

Members, visitors and guests were welcomed to the West Rand Toastmasters’ 463rd meeting, where nominations for the new Executive Committee were welcomed.

Esther Dreyer, the Club President, welcomed everyone present, before handing the meeting over to the Toastmaster of the Evening, Stephanie Watkins.

The evening’s proceedings were kicked of by Ernest Watkins, who proposed the Toast to South Africa. Michael Glencross took on the role of the joke master, and ensured the ice was broken with a very funny (and true) joke about his early teaching days.

Esther Dreyer took on the role of Grammarian, Thato Majela took on the role of Evaluation Chair and new member Edna Kamanga was the Time-keeper for the evening.

The evening’s theme was nominations, because it was a business meeting where the outgoing Executive Committee Members explained their roles on the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is nominated by Club members and various members requested the attendees to nominate them for various roles.

“These nominations were accepted by all the members at the meeting and we will be inducting our New Executive Committee at a meeting on a date still to be advised. This is a democratic process according to Toastmasters International rules. We wish our new Executive Committee a happy and informative experience,” said Glen Campbell, Vice President: Public Relations.

Due to the nominations for the new Executive Committee, there were no Impromptu Speeches, but Stephanie Watkins and Jacqueline Motaung had the opportunity to deliver their prepared speeches. Stephanie was also awarded with her Distinguished Toastmaster Award (DTM). She was also the Best Contributor for the evening.

The next meeting will be held on 6 June at the Discovery Bowling Club, Lucas Avenue, Discovery. It will start at 6.30pm.
