Angry residents blockade entrances and exits to Davidsonville

"There is going to be war if City power does not fix the faulty boxes instead of taking them out."

Residents of Davidsonville are calling on their ward councillor, Rene Benjamin, to address the issues they are experiencing with the electricity supply to the area.

City Power has allegedly cut their electricity supply without any prior warnings.

They have blocked access routes to the area with rocks and burning tyres, saying that no one is allowed to enter or leave Davidsonville.

Christebell Pienaar, the chairperson of the Davidsonville Community Forum (DCF), said they do not understand why some residents pay for electricity while others do not pay, because their electricity boxes are faulty.

“Now we want the councillor to come out and address our issues. We do not want City Power in our area any more, unless they are coming to fix the old boxes,” said Christebell.

The community members have raised concerns over the new boxes that are being installed by the power utility, saying that there are many pensioners in the area who cannot afford them.

“We are fighting for the MMC and the councillor to stop City Power. We are going to fight this to the death, because we are not going to leave it like this,” she said.

Christebell added that,”There is going to be war if City Power does not fix the faulty boxes instead of taking them out.”

The angry residents said they are disappointed that the power utility decided to cut their power after the elections and have vowed to protest until their pleas are addressed.

One of the residents said she pays her electricity every month and does not know why her power was cut.
