Orphaned teen seeks relatives’ help

Roodepoort Police are urgently appealing to the public to assist in finding an orphaned 18-year-old Jason van Wyk’s extended family.

This desperate youngster has been under the care of Roodepoort Police following the death of both his parents last month.

The parents who Jason names as Frik and Vicky van Wyk died in separate incidents. “My dad died in a car accident in April and my mother followed of an heart attack in April as well,” Jason explained the cause of his parents’ demise.

Jason said he stayed in Wilro Park with his parents and step brother, Wesley, whom he does not know his whereabouts currently. “Nobody is at home. I’m kept at a place of safety for now by the police,” he lamented.

According to Jason, the last school he attended was Laerskool Dr Havinga last year, doing grade 7.

He also said that he has relative in Durban whom he cannot trace as the cellphone numbers he has all go onto voicemail.

The Roodepoort Police Sector 1 manager, Sergeant Innocentia Moeketsi, appealed to the community to come forward. “The issue is that we cannot trace the family of this boy. We need someone who can say they know his family. I was called to fetch him on 6 April at the Roodekrans Operations Room (Neighbourhood Watch). The place of safety requires his birth certificate in order to document him. Weeks are passing and no one is coming forward to file a missing person,” a worried Innocentia said.

She appealed for anyone with more information about the boy to contact her directly on 079 522 7670.
