Another fuel price hike on the cards

Carbon tax will add an additional nine cents a litre to the petrol price and 10 cents a litre to the diesel price.

The Automobile Association (AA) has announced that there is a possibility of a marginal fuel price increase on Wednesday, 5 June, due to the introduction of the new carbon tax.

“Fuel data for May is showing a listless fuel price picture. The rand has slipped marginally by 13 cents against the US Dollar since the Department of Energy’s surprise early announcement of the May fuel price on Sunday, 28 April,” said the AA.

“For petrol, the rand’s weakness was mostly a counterpart of the oils retreat, pointing to a seven cents a litre reduction at the month end. Diesel fared worse, with a slight increase on the cards and illuminating paraffin showing a nine cents a litre rise,” added the AA.

“Our hope is that the new government will immediately set out its policy agenda which has a direct impact on fuel prices,” concluded the AA.
