#IMadeMyMark: Councillors appeal for volunteers on Election Day

Speaking on behalf of the councillors in Region C, Ward 89 councillor, Amelia Bester, explained the need for volunteers on election day.

A plea for hordes of volunteers to assist on Election Day (8 May) has been made by local councillors.

Speaking on behalf of the councillors in Region C, Ward 89 councillor, Amelia Bester, explained the need for volunteers during the day of elections.

“We need many volunteers to help us at each voting station on Election Day within Region C. We need the volunteers from 7am until late, as they will be asked to oversee the counting process as well. Their purpose will be oversight – ensuring that the processes are followed correctly,” she said, adding that training will be given to those who offer to assist.

She also explained the requirements. “Political alliance isn’t that important for this,” she said. She went on, “You’ve got to be a South African citizen over 18 years of age with a valid ID to assist. Also, [youngsters] can be used outside as we will have front house operations to assist people who have any queries. Volunteers will not engage the voters, their job will be to observe the process and note the observations and if there are any issues inside then the volunteer will take it up with the councillor who will then take the matter up with the IEC,” she said.

To volunteer to assist on Election Day, contact Zone Niemand on 081 584 7559.
