Police – report domestic abuse immediately

Muthan disclosed that the station was dealing with a spike in domestic violence cases, where women and children are victims of the scourge.

“All forms of domestic abuse have to be reported by the victim at the police station and action should be taken thereafter.”

These were the words of Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, in his bid to encourage victims of domestic violence to come forward.

Muthan disclosed that the station was dealing with a spike in domestic violence cases, where women and children are victims of the scourge.

“We’ve had an increase in assault and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm pertaining to domestic violence,” he said. He pointed out that most of the incidents stemmed from shebeens in the informal settlements. “This is the reason why we are clamping down on the sheebeens,” Muthan said.

The Northsider previously reported on a case of domestic violence where a woman, Takalani Madziga, and her children almost died in a shack after it was set alight by a bitter ex-lover.
