Creating opportunities for the less privileged

BEE Development is a charity organisation that aims to make a difference in the lives of people in Roodepoort by providing training opportunities to the less privileged.

According to Ronel Potas, the chairperson of BEE Development, their aim is to actively address the issue of unemployment and to improve the lives of the community through coaching, and teaching the public the skills to fight unemployment.

“We provide in-service related training opportunities to the younger South African generation in a variety of fields, such as sports coaching in netball, rugby, and athletics. We also cater for adults by training them in the fields of administration, cooking, life skills, relevant employment skills, child care, entrepreneurship and gardening.”

Ronel added they are not doing all of this with the intentions of only preparing the trainees for the world. This is ultimately a way to improve the quality of life through employment and healthy living.

They have opened a charity shop where clean, marketable items are donated and sold to finance and support their primary objective. The organisation also donates some of the items it receives to other charities.

The charity shop is situated at 77 Mollie Road, Newlands, and operates from Friday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
