The illegal taxi rank between Krugerrand and Florin Roads is believed to have brought a number of illegal activities to the Strubens Valley area.
During a recent Honeydew Sector 3 Community Policing Forum (CPF) meeting attendees complained about the filth and the disregard of the law by those who hang around the ‘rank’ adjacent to Riverview Shopping Centre.
People urinating, defecating, drinking, dealing in drugs and littering were some of the concerns. One of the residents said some even dispose of their bottles in drains, which block them and eventually cause flooding when it rains in the area. If residents dare to approach them about their undesirable behaviour, the culprits allegedly threaten them.

Some photos were submitted to the Northsider depicting men lying on the grass guzzling beer and storm water drains being blocked with bottles and rubbish.
The bottle store inside the centre is being blamed for contributing to the problem.
This issue was reported to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department ward commander, Superintendent Wandile Mrubata, who initiated a clean-up campaign to deal with the crisis.
”On Wednesday, 20 March, we did a campaign there. However, our biggest challenge is that those people will keep coming back,” he said.
