Community warned to be careful when using Wilrogate ATMs

Elderly persons targeted especially

Community members using the Standard Bank ATM at the Wilrogate Shopping Centre are warned to be vigilant.

According to a Facebook post on the Wilropark/ Helderkuin/ Roodekrans Community Network page, it seems that fraudsters have thought out a new way to con people out of their hard-earned money.

“There is a guy in a blue/ grey Mercedes that parks right in front of the Standard Bank ATM. The moment an elderly person goes inside to draw money, he hurries inside, leaving his transaction slip in side the machine on purpose while standing to one side. When you call him back to tell him about his ‘forgotten’ slip, he would inform you that this machine is problematic and you must lift your card higher in the slot, while eagerly wanting to show you how to do it with your card. The rest is obvious,” the post read.

Community members using this machine are being urged to be vigilant and not to accept help from anybody.
