The Gateway School receives motivation from ‘Beast’

'Beast' spoke about wanting to achieve greatness and how he overcame his challenges and circumstances to become a Springbok.

Fidelity ADT’s brand ambassador, Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira, paid The Gateway School – a special needs school – a visit for a motivational talk on 6 March.

Nicholas Govender, community development manager for Fidelity ADT, said, “It was a pleasure to visit the school which caters for learners with special education needs and see the reaction of the children to their hero”. Fidelity ADT has recently partnered with Gateway, and is the security company responsible for the school’s armed response. “We were so impressed with the outstanding work the school is doing that we wanted to relieve some of the financial burden by helping to take over the security.”

‘Beast’ is a regular visitor to many of the schools across Gauteng and often talks to the children about how to stand up to bullying, which is a general problem in many schools. “A lot of attention is paid to cyberbullying but the real threat often sits in the playground and the classroom,” Govender said. “Children are five times more likely to be bullied at school than online and recent statistics show that 87 per cent of bullied children have in fact been bullied at their school.”
