RAs encouraged to attend CPF meetings

She said, “I’m quite shocked at some of the RAs' lack of commitment. People only pitch up to the meetings when they have a problem and they never come back again”.

The Residents Associations under the Honeydew Policing Forum Sector 2 came under fire when its representatives were criticised for lacking commitment.

During a CPF meeting at Honeydew Police Station on Thursday, 28 February, Natalie Truran, the secretary of the forum kicked off the meeting by stating her dismay at the failure of the RA representatives and chairpersons to attend the monthly meetings.

She said, “I’m quite shocked at some of the RAs’ lack of commitment. People only pitch up to the meetings when they have a problem and they never come back again”.

She encouraged some commitment from the representatives, saying, “What’s the point of being a chairperson?”

Sector 2 public relations officer, Jon Rosenberg, quickly defended the RA representatives, saying that what they do for the forum is voluntary, in that they use their own time and money to attend the meetings, and some representatives cannot attend due to work or business commitments.

However, the chairperson, Neville Burnett, still urged the RAs to at least provide a representative to attend the meeting when their chairperson is unavailable.

Among other highlights, the Sector 2 manager, Nicholas Makhura, indicated that Sector 2 had the lowest number of crime reports in all sectors falling under Honeydew Police Station. However, he said there was still a challenge with regard to business burglaries in the area. He then encouraged security companies to work with the police in order to address the crime, despite security companies complaining about the delay in response time by the police when they require assistance from them.
